Teddy and Dolly – October 25, 2005

I met Dolly backstage at the Danville Concert on Oct. 25, 2005.  I gave her the painting I painted titled, “I Will Always Love You”, of her with her belated parents. We took several pictures together. She was very kind and it was a dream come true to finally get to meet her.

Hello,

I’m Teddy Wayne Smith from Pike County Kentucky (Eastern Kentucky).  I was born on May 26, 1980 and I have been a Dolly fan for as long as I can ever remember.  I’m also a Reba McEntire fan. I don't ever remember a time that these two country divas haven't played a part in my life.  Dolly was always the one whom I had more memorabilia of, mainly because she was so widely marketed due to her Smoky Mountain theme park, Dollywood!  It was Dolly's voice that first made me a fan. I can not ever recall a song that she has sung, that I do not like. There are songs in which I prefer over others, but none that I totally hate.  I first started watching Dolly on her TV Special called, "The Dolly Show". This show originally aired in the 1976 and 1977 television season but then came back in 1987 for a very short time.  My grandmother taped mostly every weekly episode not knowing she would one day have a grandson who admires Dolly so much. Her songs, so filled with emotion, aided me through many tough periods of my life. It was her voice that I could turn to for comfort. She is a prolific songwriter, having penned more than 3,000 compositions. "I Will Always Love You" has been a hit three times for her (1974, 1982, 1995) and once for Whitney Houston. Out of every song she has ever sung, "I Will Always Love You", has been my favorite of all time. She is a superb singer, songwriter, actress, bestselling author and successful television and film producer. It was her movie, "Steel Magnolias", which lead me to fall in love with Dolly as an actress. I admired Dolly's love for her family and her heart for giving. For someone to come from a family of poverty and work their way to the top is very inspiring. For everything she does through her Dollywood Foundation and The Imagination Library, which distributes books to children, she has inspired me to be successful in whatever I do. And that's why I Will Always Love Dolly!

Now a little about me.  I graduated from Pikeville College with a degree in Art and Computer Science plus a Minor in Business.  I enjoy painting, drawing, sculpting, and writing.  I recently opened an art studio in my home town.  Besides being an artist I’m also a writer – my first book, “Teddy – Finding LIFE in a World of Destruction” was published in May of 2003.  It was an Inspirational Autobiography about the challenges I have faced growing up with a disability.  Speaking of my disability, I’ll tell you a little about it.  I have Anterior Horn Cell Disease which is a form of Muscular Dystrophy; basically it just means that I’m not strong enough to walk so other than that I’m a ‘normal’ human being.  But if you have any questions then please ask me – besides I did write a book about it.  I look forward to doing this website and I look forward to meeting you.
